Extractions

We, at Delmarva Dental Services,do not believe in extracting teeth if they can be saved. We will go to great lengths to save a tooth using root canals, gum surgeryand crown procedures. Even though an extraction can handicap a person, we do realize that in some instances it becomes necessary.

There are various degrees of difficulty that may be encountered when removing a tooth, thereby causing the need for different types of extractions:

Simple: When the tooth can easily be removed.

Surgical: Because there is not enough tooth structure to grip on to for removal, the gum surrounding the tooth has to be flapped back to expose more tooth. In some instances it may also be necessary to remove bone around the tooth.

Split Tooth: When a multi-rooted tooth is divided in sections for easier removal instead of as a whole.

Impacted: The tooth is generally not exposed or only partically exposed in the mouth. This requires a combination of split tooth plus surgical extraction techniques.
